Final Fantasy XIV is finally coming to Xbox Series systems and everyone’s excited about it, including series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. The creator of Square Enix’s premiere JRPG series recently showed off his custom Xbox controller, which he uses to play the addictive MMORPG.
Recapped by Twitter user Genki, Sakaguchi showed that his custom Xbox controller is an Elite Controller with a small keyboard attached. Sakaguchi showed off this controller during a Final Fantasy XIV fanfest in London, so fans can see just how hardcore he is.
Hilariously, Sakaguchi said he removed most of the keys and only kept the ones needed to play the MMO. The legendary creator then joked about how hardcore he is, though we can’t really argue, given how much work this must have taken.
Seeing this kind of controller gives us flashbacks to some of the odd controller/keyboard combinations that were made in the past. Gamecube fans will remember the Japanese-exclusive controller that had a massive keyboard with controller buttons on each end. That was just so players could type properly while playing Phantasy Star Online on the purple lunch box.
Anyone hoping that we would get an Xbox Series release date for Final Fantasy XIV will have to wait a bit longer. No release date was revealed, though the Xbox port is currently scheduled for a Spring 2024 release. Xbox players will also get access to the free trial, letting them try out the critically acclaimed MMO until Level 70.
Square Enix’s MMORPG continues to be one of the most-played games after a decade’s worth of content. The company has also adjusted things in the MMO various times to appeal to newer players. Most recently, a number of the game’s story quests were adjusted so that loner players could tackle them solo.
