After taking the mobile world by storm, Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis will now be coming to Steam. This shouldn’t be too surprising, as the gacha RPG has already been downloaded a staggering amount of times and we’re sure some fans spent money on it.
Ever Crisis’ Steam port was announced during a big livestream celebrating the mobile game, which included announcements for new characters and costumes. While that’s expected for a live-service gacha app, the Steam port is a pleasant surprise to all, as many JRPG fans have shown interest in this title.
Now that Ever Crisis is coming to Steam, the inevitable question is if it will be coming to other gaming systems. Many fans want to see this app on the Switch or even their PS5, just for the novelty of seeing a better-looking FF VII.
For those unaware, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a retelling of the entire FF VII saga, which includes the PS1 original, Crisis Core, and all of the spin-offs. The appeal for many is seeing a ‘proper’ remake of the original Final Fantasy VII, with beautiful visuals and turn-based combat. Granted, there’s also a bunch of gacha mechanics that encourage spending but fans have accepted that lesser evil.
The free-to-play app was actually announced at the same time as the PS5 port of Remake, which included the Intergrade DLC. It will be interesting to see how the app is integrated into Steam, especially since many fans want to play it on their Steam Deck.
Square Enix has surprisingly been very responsive in bringing Final Fantasy mobile games to PC. Over the past decade, multiple FF mobile games have been ported to the platform to capitalise on its free-to-play microtransactions. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series actually debuted on mobile before coming to Switch and PlayStation, so fans are hoping for a similar scenario.
