Final Fantasy Tactics remake "ready to go" claims leak characters from Tactics

Does Square ever sleep? Well, apparently not, because along with the deluge of titles they have been announcing lately, another game in the Final Fantasy universe is reportedly on the way: Final Fantasy Tactics Remake.

Indeed, it is time to return to the universe of Tactics with a full remake of the original title. According to a new leak, Square Enix plans to bring the strategic classic to modern fans with a fresh coat of paint.

This information comes from a thread on Resetera, which claims that a Final Fantasy Tactics remake is "ready to go." But when exactly? The same thread claims that we should see this dropping sometime between now and 2025 but closer to a 2024 release.

This is not the first we've heard of a Final Fantasy Tactics Remake, as journalist Jason Schreier confirmed the title in a tweet back in February. Furthermore, numerous Square employees have teased the existence of the upcoming game.

The Final Fantasy Tactics spin-off series began in 1997 on the original PlayStation with the aptly titled Final Fantasy Tactics. This was the first time Square set a title in Ivalice (where Final Fantasy XII also took place). It came from a notable pedigree: Yasumi Matsuno, the mind behind the Ogre Battle series at Quest Corporation.

Tactics came out to great critical acclaim and was quite a success with the public. After its first title, the series branched in several different directions, with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance being similar to the original but not a sequel. Afterward, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift was a sequel to Advance, but not directly to the first game.

While we have no more information on the Tactics remake, it will be interesting to see the direction that Square will take this one. Will it be a full-blown 3D AAA remake or a smaller game that keeps the same 2D isometric graphics as the original? We will let you know as soon as we have more information.
