Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has been all over Square Enix as of late, producing Final Fantasy 16 and churning out more Final Fantasy 14 content. While Yoshi-P is juggling different games for different systems, the developer recently said that he wishes there was only one gaming system to make his life easier.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Muyao 4 Super Player (translated by IGN), Yoshi-P talked about wanting only one gaming system. According to the developer, he feels that only having one system would make things easier for both developers and consumers.
"Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one," says Yoshida. "It would be better for both the developers and the players."
Oddly enough, the Final Fantasy 16 producer doesn’t say why this would be better for devs and customers. That’s probably because it wouldn’t be, as a monopoly on the gaming industry favors no one. While developing for one system would be easier, fans wouldn’t have an alternative if they wanted different games or a cheaper console.
Admittedly, in a perfect world, there would only be one system that somehow plays all the games we want. However, that’s just not sustainable in the current economy, as gamers would only have one expensive option that might not cater to their wants.
Yoshi-P has been in the news a lot lately, as the producer has been talking a lot about Final Fantasy 16. Sadly, it hasn’t all been good, as the dev has encountered a number of toxic fans who hate his latest release.
Thankfully, there’s also plenty of positivity being shared about the 16th entry in this legendary series. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, actually said this was the “ultimate entry” in the franchise. Square Enix is also open to making DLC for the RPG, which wasn’t part of the original plan.
