Final Fantasy 16 has managed to capture the attention of many, which is why fans are excited to get the upcoming PC port of this action RPG. While a release date for this port has yet to be revealed, producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida said fans will need an SSD for an ideal experience.
In an interview with Famitsu (translated by Twitter user Genki), Yoshida said that fans should have an SSD to make sure everything goes smoothly. Yoshida did say that the devs would try to optimize this RPG, like for the Steam Deck, but the producer says an SSD should be considered.
"Details will be announced in due course," Yoshida said. "However, I would like you to prepare an SSD… In FF16, a game where loading speed is critical, an HDD would be difficult to use.”
Considering how Final Fantasy 16 was made with a PlayStation 5 in mind, we imagine that getting this to run on an HDD will be quite the challenge. The action RPG has already heated many a PS5 system and we imagine something similar can happen to computers, even strong ones.
Things seem to be turning around for the latest Final Fantasy installment, as the action RPG did have a rough start. Square Enix couldn’t decide if the PS5 exclusive was a success or not, though it was clear that the game didn’t do well in Japan. Despite that, decent sales and strong fan support have led to DLC, the first of which is available now.
At one point, there was some minor controversy surrounding Final Fantasy 16, as some fans felt that it wasn’t a “real” Final Fantasy game. Thankfully, the debates surrounding that topic have lessened and it seems most fans agree that this is still a solid game, despite not always feeling like an RPG.
