Falcon and the Winter Soldier's original ending had more closure for Bucky

Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended on a mixed finale. While the Endgame sequel successfully transferred the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson, it wasn't as neat for Bucky Barnes.

At the end of the show the title changes. Instead of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier it’s Captain America and the Winter Soldier. However, Bucky Barnes’ purpose in the show is to escape that Winter Soldier moniker. Originally, the end title was going to reflect that.

Captain America and the White Wolf

In an interview with Comicbookmovie, Spellman confirmed that the end title originally removed all mention of the Winter Soldier. Just like Sam’s transformation into Captain America, Bucky was finally going to be officially called the White Wolf.

“I got to see that moniker [White Wolf] in watching one of the cuts, and man, it really affected me emotionally," Spellman revealed. "The reason [the closing title card] still says The Winter Soldier is solely based on Marvel feeling like they needed to keep some of the original title in there to land that feeling. I don’t think it had anything to do with where Bucky is going or how Bucky evolved."

Spellman confirms that Disney believed the complete title change would've been too much. Instead of giving both characters closure, they focused on Captain America. Spellman reveals that this cut was extremely emotional for fans of the character.

"I think that they felt like if they went too far away from the original title, you wouldn’t feel the impact of those words. Again, I’m speculating here, but I believe they wanted the impact of Captain America and the Winter Soldier to land. And I do think that had they done Captain America and the White Wolf, it might not have been as emotional of a landing because it’s too much math and too much evolution. I got blindsided by that while watching the cut - but I loved it."

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Season 2

Disney hasn't confirmed whether or not The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be getting a season 2. However, if the show does receive a sequel, it will go by one of two names. Captain America and the Winter Soldier or Captain America and the White Wolf.

Subsequently, rumours are spreading that the show's sequel will be in the form of a Captain America 4 movie. The film will allegedly focus on structural racism in the United States and the criticism Sam Wilson receives after taking up the mantle.
