Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink CEO Elon Musk was once the world’s richest man. However, the Iron Man 2 guest star has since fallen from his golden pedestal following his acquisition of social media underdog Twitter.
The multi-billionaire’s $44 Billion buyout of the company was met with plummeting shares of his main squeeze Tesla. With stocks down almost 50% over the past six months.
According to Guinness World Records, Musk has officially smashed the record for most money lost by a single person in history. No small feat, the once-world’s-richest-man has taken the record by a landslide.
The record claims that Musk has officially lost $182 billion since November 2021. However, some analysts claim that the CEO has actually lost closer to $200 billion, but the exact figure is “impossible to ascertain”.
Prior to Musk’s loss, the largest amount lost by a single person was much lower at $58.6 billion. This massive personal loss occurred in 2000 and is attributed to Softbank founder and CEO Masayoshi Son.
After his massive loss, Elon Musk is no longer the world’s richest man. Instead, that record is held by head of French fashion company Louis Vuitton, Bernard Arnault.
Ironically, Musk’s loss comes just one year after trolling his previous “Richest Man” Jeff Bezos on Twitter. In October 2021, Musk replied to Bezos’ tweet with a second-place medal emoji, goading that he had more money than the Amazon founder.
Elon Musk’s loss has seemed to stabilise for now. However, with multiple Tesla controversies, the lack of new products and disinterest in Tesla Bot, the future of Musk’s wealth doesn’t appear to be on an uphill trajectory.
Nevertheless, Tesla is still going strong, despite the endless issues with the company. Whether or not products like Tesla Bot humanoid robots will actually release is yet to be seen. However, if they do, will it be enough to prop Musk back into the number one spot?
