Elden Ring Invisible Enemies: How To Fix The Invisible Enemy Glitch on Elden Ring

Do you need the Elden Ring invisible enemies fix? As with any game in the FromSoftware stable, Elden Ring is hard. Very hard. But invisible enemies? Come on. The game was already hard enough. This is just rubbing salt into the gaping wound caused by that enemy YOU COULDN'T SEE.

Despite the acclaim, Elden Ring is not immune to problems. As annoying as this may be, there are some possible ways to get around the invisible enemies issue. We'll let you know what you can do in an effort to resolve this specific problem. Here's what we know.

How To Fix The Elden Ring Invisible Enemies Glitch

If you find yourself in a situation where you are under attack, but can't see your opponent, you could very quickly find yourself in deep trouble. The only guaranteed way to get around this, is to run away and avoid that particular area. Elden Ring is after all, about as non-linear as it gets, so just because you encounter a particular opponent, doesn't mean you have to vanquish them in order to progress.

But let's assume that you really, really want to get past whatever it is that's attacking you. And of course, it might be happening in more than one place, with multiple different enemies. What then? Here are our top tips.

Quit and Restart the Game

A fairly obvious thing to try, but saving, quitting and restarting from the closest Sites of Grace or Stakes of Marika might work. Doing this will reload the game, and can in some cases, re-render the game, causing previously invisible foes to be visible.

Load a Previous Save

As an alternative to the previous point, loading a previous save may also work. You will lose some progress, so it's up to you to decide if that's worth it. But if it re-renders the game, and those enemies become visible, then maybe it's worth it.

Look for Updates

We say this routinely, but make sure you check for any outstanding software updates. A game as vast as Elden Ring is bound to have a few issues, and these are often resolved via patches. So if you spot any pending updates, make sure you install them, and see whether this makes a difference.

The same is true for system updates and graphics driver updates.

Lower your Graphics Settings

Having lower quality graphics will make it easier for your machine to render, thereby helping to reduce the risk of invisibility. While this may make the game look a little less pretty, that's surely a small price to pay for not being killed by an enemy you can't see.

Verify Integrity of Game Files

If you're playing on Steam, then this is always worth doing. It takes a few minutes, but will quickly identify and fix any damaged or corrupted files. To do this:

  • Restart your computer and launch Steam
  • Next, you can either right click the game in your Library, or click the gear icon from the game's Library page on the far right
  • From the drop down menu, select Properties...
  • Select the Local Files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files... button
  • Wait for the process to complete

Tweak Other PC Settings

There are several other settings that PC users can look at playing with, to see if these make a difference. In no particular order:

  • Give Elden Ring High Priority. This will then automatically allocate more resource to running the game. To do this:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to start Task Manager.
    • Go to the Details tab, right-click the desired process, and choose Set priority and select any value that you want.
    • When the confirmation dialog appears, select Change priority
  • Change in-game settings - reduce or turn off things like SSAO, depth of field, shadow quality and effects quality. This will reduce the amount of work your GPU needs to do.
  • Turn off Anti-aliasing and motion-blur.
  • Switch off Windows gaming mode. Somewhat strangely, this can actually improve game performance.

What Is the Elden Ring Invisible Enemies Issue?

Quite simply, this is a bug where enemies in the game are not rendered correctly, making them invisible. Consequently, you get attacked by an opponent, but you are unable to see them.

In terms of what's causing it, no-one knows for certain at this point. There is no 'official' fix for this issue at the moment. But it's the sort of problem we can imagine the developers will be working hard to resolve. So while you are waiting for a patch, try the solutions we outlined above. These are your best hope of avoiding death by an invisible hand.
