EA Desktop App: How to join the beta for Origin's replacement

It feels like every day a new app comes out that wants to take your money, time, and install space in order to offer you somewhere to play your games.

If you've got a gaming PC, it's quite likely that you've got around four different launchers installed at any one time.

It can make things a little cluttered, but hey, that's gaming in the modern age.

The latest one to ask for your storage space is the EA Desktop app, but what exactly is that?

What is the EA Desktop app?

The EA Desktop app isn't really a brand-new thing. Instead, it's basically a rebranding of their Origin app.

That means that you might already have the original version of it installed, but it'll be changing over to the EA Desktop app soon.

This was reported on by Gamesindustry.biz, where Mike Blank, the SVP for Strategic Growth, said that it was "to create a more frictionless, fast, socially-oriented experience for our players, where it becomes the best place for them to connect with the people they want to play with in the games they want to play."

How to enter the EA Desktop app beta

If you want to go ahead and try out the new version of this app before it releases, you could always get involved with the beta.

To do this, all you need to do is head on over the website and follow along with the steps.

It's open to anyone who is an Origin player, and you'll need your EA account details to hand if you want to complete it.

Of course, you could also just wait until it releases fully, but that's entirely up to you, and we're not going to judge you either way, because that's not what we're here for.
