Techland’s zombie-hunting parkour game Dying Light 2 has a surprising cut mechanic: Horse Riding. While fans can’t currently ride horses throughout the infested walled city of Villedor, the mechanic could return in a future DLC expansion.
Found on the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, a user was trying to modify their config file for the zombie survival game. However, while scouring through the file, they noticed numerous references to riding horses.
In the Dying Light 2 config file, there are a number of references to the cut horse riding mechanic. These include galloping, moving the horse left and right, increasing max speed, and slowing down.
Dying Light 2’s gameplay also has a number of detailed horse models throughout the city of Villedor. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there’s not much you can do with the animals, but they are present in the title.
Fans are hoping that Dying Light 2 horse riding will come to the game in an upcoming expansion. The original title had a large amount of DLC, including an expansion that allowed users to drive and upgrade a zombie-smashing car.
If horse riding does eventually make its way to Dying Light 2, the mechanic should come alongside some deep RPG elements, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2’s horses. Instead of just getting on and off the horse, players need to build a connection to their steed in order to make its inevitable demise feel more impactful.
Dying Light 2’s first DLC expansion, Bloody Ties, released back in November last year, and fans are still waiting for the next DLC. The next DLC is expected to release sometime this year, taking fans to a new location that could, possibly, introduce rideable horses.
Dying Light 2 is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series, PS5 and PC.
