Disney Dreamlight Valley might be free-to-play soon but a special physical version is coming to entice collectors. Unfortunately, this release is barely “physical”, following the trend of useless box copies that only have codes in them.

Priced at $49.99 (via Wario64), the “cozy” edition comes with a box, a download code for the game, 14,500 Moonstones, and some cosmetic DLC. In terms of having something physical to hold, this copy of the game does have stickers and one of six collectible posters. Players won’t know what posters will come until they buy the game.

This “physical” version of Disney Dreamlight Valley is the same for all versions, so gamers hoping for preferential treatment won’t be getting them. So whether you’re a Switch owner or an Xbox Series player, the game’s case will mostly be empty.

Unfortunately, this is a continuing trend we’ve seen in the gaming industry and one that won’t be ending anytime soon. LEGO 2K Drive, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate on Switch, and numerous Fortnite bundles have used this strategy.

Since Disney Dreamlight Valley is becoming free-to-play, these digital-only physical releases make some sense. However, we’ve seen numerous digital-only games get pulled from online stores and physical versions would have preserved them in some way.

What makes this move more disappointing is that many fans have been enjoying this Disney take on Animal Crossing. Fans have enjoyed the various Biomes and new characters added in each update. Enjoying this game physically would have been nice but that just isn’t the case here.
