The developers who worked on Stranger Things 3: The Game will be closing down their doors soon, which is unfortunate. Mostly known for making Netflix tie-in games, it’s a true shame that the studio will be closing down without reaching its full potential.
BonusXP, the company in question, has announced that they are in the process of “ceasing operations,” which is really depressing. Continuing on, the company said they enjoyed making games for 11 years and are hoping their devs get to find work elsewhere.
“We have begun the difficult process of ceasing operations at BonusXP. We have enjoyed making games for you over the last 11 years,” the company said in a tweet. “Our focus is on helping our team find their next opportunities.”
Like we mentioned earlier, the company was mostly known for Netflix tie-in games. The company released two Stranger Things games, 1984 and 3: The game respectively, which received a decent reaction from fans. While not as popular, they also worked on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, which was a decent enough game.
Currently, BonusXP has not revealed why the company is closing down, though we assume its due to money and lacking any upcoming projects. It’s a shame too, as we would like to see the devs work on an original IP that’s not related to a Netflix show.
Apparently, that was the end goal, as the company previously stated that they were working on an original action RPG. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re not going to see the fruit of their labor, with the company closing down and all. Hopefully, the developers get to find jobs elsewhere and eventually release something resembling this game.
