Fans just received a double dose of Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, both of which are more than fitting for a finale. While it’s a bit sad that the game won’t get any more additional content, there is a bright side in that a sequel has already been decided.

Speaking with PC Gamer, Phantom Liberty director Gabe Amatangelo confirmed that the 2.0 update and expansion were the final major pieces of content for the RPG. Amatangelo then just casually drops that they will soon be working on an official sequel, before saying that he should have used the project’s codename.

"Then it's Cyberpunk 2. Or 'Orion,' I should say, whatever we end up naming it," Amatangelo casually said.

A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 had been reported on by Jason Schreier, who claimed that Amatangelo would be in charge after praise for his Phantom Liberty work. The game’s director definitely deserves it, as Phantom Liberty and the 2.0 update have fundamentally changed Cyberpunk, making it better than ever.

With CD Projekt Red also working on several games based on The Witcher, we’re interested in seeing them squeeze out a Cyberpunk sequel. Now that their games will be using a newer version of the Unreal engine, fans can’t wait to see the visual difference this engine will make. The engine change is also why Cyberpunk is bowing out with Phantom Liberty, as that still used their RED engine.

CD Projekt Red had much bigger plans for Cyberpunk 2077 prior to the engine change, as most of their efforts were spent fixing the game. Since the RPG launched as a mess, the company ended up canceling plans for a multiplayer mode in order to fix all of the issues. In fact, many considered the game ‘good’ even before the 2.0 update, showing how much effort was put into gaining that goodwill back.
