Cyberpunk 2077 is going to feel like a whole new game once the 2.0 update launches just before the Phantom Liberty expansion. However, players will also need to prepare their PCs for the update, as the whole game now requires an SSD to function.
On Twitter, CD Projekt Red told fans that they would need to upgrade to an SSD and check if their PC meets the newly updated system requirements. Players hoping to run this on HDD seem to be out of luck, as the devs are adamant that 2.0 can only run on SSD.
In addition to upgrading your computer, the devs have also told players to remove mods as they might cause issues with the new version of this RPG. Until an update comes from the game’s official modding community, players will have to wait before re-installing their favorite mods.
While the shift to an SSD might disappoint some, the changes coming to Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 are massive. From the new skill tree, to more adaptive police AI, and brand-new vehicle combat, this is a lot for a free update. Unfortunately, it won’t be ‘free’ for players with an HDD as they will now need to cough up cash for an SSD or a new computer in general.
Things really are changing for the RPG, as Phantom Liberty will be the only expansion coming to the game. Now that CD Projekt Red is switching to Unreal 5, this might be the last time we see the company’s signature engine in action. At the least, it will be one hell of a ride for players who have been enjoying their time in Night City.
