As you get the hang of playing games in virtual reality, you may start to wonder, can you use Discord on Meta Quest 3? Discord is a great app to use for communicating with friends while playing video games after all.
The Meta Quest 3 is a great choice when it comes to playing virtual reality games, and there are ways for you to share the experience with friends. You can cast the Quest 3 to a TV or even use it for a live stream on YouTube.
So let’s go ahead and find out if you can use Discord on Quest 3, or if you’ll need to resort to other methods for chatting while using your VR headset.
Can You Use Discord on Meta Quest 3?
The Discord app is currently not officially supported by the Quest 3. Still, some workarounds will allow you to use the popular messaging service on Meta’s VR headset.
Many speculate that the reason Discord isn’t supported on the Quest 3 is that Meta sees the app as competition to their social media platforms. But whatever the actual reason may be, it doesn’t change the fact that you can’t download and install Discord directly onto your Quest 3 headset.
Of course, this could change in the future, but if and when that might happen can be anyone’s guess.
How to Use Discord on Meta Quest 3
You can use Discord on Meta Quest 3 through the Virtual Desktop app or by installing it directly with an APK file. Once you have downloaded the APK, you’ll need to sideload the app on Meta Quest 3 using SideQuest.
Use Discord through Virtual Desktop
Virtual Desktop is an app that can be installed on the Quest 3 that allows the headset to browse the web by connecting it to a PC. Once connected, simply go to discord.com to access the chat service’s browser version.
Install Discord with SideQuest
Installing Discord onto your Meta Quest 3 is a bit more complicated than using the browser version through Virtual Desktop. Here are the details on getting through the installation process.
- Download the Discord APK.
- Open up SideQuest and click on Install APK file from the folder on your computer. This is the icon in the top right corner of your screen with the downward arrow.
- Locate the Discord APK file and open it.
- Wait for Discord to finish installing.
- On your Quest 3, open up your Apps menu and click on All in the top right corner.
- Look for Unknown Sources and click on it.
- Select Discord from the list that appears.
Keep in mind that since these are just workarounds, the use of Discord through either of these methods may be limited. For example, voice chat may not always be available.
