As we approach the next-gen of Sony consoles, it's probably a good time to think about the last-gen of Sony consoles.
No, we don't mean the PS4, that's the current-gen, we mean the PS3. The PS3 is one of the stranger PlayStation consoles thanks to it not being an overwhelming success, and some very strange games.
As a result, there are some incredibly cool games on there that many people haven't played.
That means you might be wondering if you can play PS3 games on your PS5.
Can you play PS3 games on PS5
While the PS5 will have backwards compatibility, it won't extend beyond the PS4 games.
The chances are that this is in part due to the issues that kept PS3 games being unplayable on the PS4, but also that Sony doesn't want to eat its own lunch when it comes to PS Now.
Ultimately, it could also be due to a simple lack of demand. While we might want it, and you might be hungry for it, that's not always enough to make it happen.
What games will be backwards compatible
While some may be disappointed by this news, it's important to note that Sony hasn't done backwards compatibility for a while, so seeing it at all is quite a nice thing.
The general message from Sony so far has been that nearly all of the PS4 games will be available thanks to this new feature. Though, we still don't know if it'll be just for discs or will include digital purchases too.
There's a good argument for the latter though, thanks to the all-digital PS5. That makes it highly unlikely that it would be disc only, as that would cut out a huge portion of the potential audience.
That means you should be able to play boosted versions of all of your games on the new hardware using your fancy DualSense controller, and that's very exciting.
