Larian Studios’ groundbreaking role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 is now even bigger with its new Patch 5 update. If you were already struggling for space to fit the brilliant D&D RPG, this new update won’t do you any favours.
On its own, Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 takes up 30GB of extra space on your internal storage of choice. However, the patch needs 130GB of free space to actually install on your device.
In a tweet revealing the new patch’s install size, Larian explained that gamers who don’t have much free space left may find it easier to uninstall the game and re-download the game from scratch.
“This update will clock in at roughly 30GB and will require approximately 130GB of free space to install,” said Larian. “If you find yourself without the space to install the update, we recommend uninstalling BG3 and then re-downloading the patched version.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 will thankfully be included on disc for the game’s new Xbox Series port. The 130GB title will take up three discs for Xbox users, but at least there won’t be any excessive downloading on launch. Then again, when Patch 6 and Patch 7 release, we fully expect a lot of extra downloading to take place.
The new patch adds a tonne of new content to the game, with leaks revealing brand new kissing scenes for all companions. Alongside new content, Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 also includes massive performance improvements, massively reducing RAM and VRAM usage which should make for a much better experience on platforms such as Steam Deck.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s major performance improvements come after months of extra optimisations for the Xbox Series version. While the Xbox Series X version didn’t need much extra tinkering, getting the game running on the lower-powered Series S has proven challenging for the studio.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available to play on PlayStation 5 and PC. The Xbox Series version of the RPG will finally release later this month, with a reveal sometime during The Game Awards on December 7, 2023.
