Larian Studios is finally putting Baldur's Gate 3 and all of its accolades in the past and will be moving on to new pastures. Studio founder Swen Vincke has confirmed they are working on two original new IPs and describes them as "our best work ever."
Baldur's Gate 3 has won every single award for Game of The Year, making it one of the most successful and critically acclaimed games of all time. However, Larian Studios is not one to rest on its laurels and has even more ambitious plans for the future.
“I don’t know if we’re going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever. I get excited like a kid watching the key imagery, want to show it to everyone now and grumble in frustration at having to wait until it’s actually all working. Yes, it’s hype but it’s hype because it really looks and feels good.” said an excited Swen on April 17th 2024.
Larian Studios had previously alluded to plans on making two new projects last year. However, back then the plans seemed up in the air but they mentioned how they wanted these to be big and ambitious projects that "we wanted to make".
Recently, it appears these plans bore fruit and Larian made a community post, where they announced they were "currently working on two new projects". Out of these, at least one is expected to be a brand-new original IP from the studio.
As for Baldur's Gate 3, the latest update adds a lot more evil endings and choices to the game. Plus, they're giving the cinematics a musical update. However, they have confirmed they plan on halting any major work on the game and don't intend to make a sequel.
In the blog post they state, "we won't be introducing any major new narrative content to the story of Baldur's Gate 3 or its origin characters and companions, nor will we be making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4."
Following the success of Baldur's Gate 3 fans look up to Larian Studios as one of the gold standards in modern gaming. They have a similar following and prestige as FromSoftware(responsible for Dark Souls/Elden Ring) and the same hype received by CD Projekt Red after The Witcher 3.
So that will be it for Baldur's Gate 3 and we know eagerly await any and all news that comes from Larian Studios regarding their new titles.
