Dungeons and Dragons has a ton of lore that you can dive into and Larian Studios lets you do just that through sidequests. The Baldur’s Gate 3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance storyline is one such sidequest and it’s proven to be one of the more fascinating ones.
A lot of sidequests in Baldur’s Gate 3 involve things like finding a Harper stash or befriending an Owlbear cub, but Investigate the Selunite Resistance offers much more in terms of story. In this Act 2 quest, you’ll get to learn about the Shadow-Cursed Lands’ history and why it is currently in the state that it’s in.
Now, let’s get into the details behind the Baldur’s Gate 3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest and see where its story takes us.
How to complete Investigate the Selunite Resistance
Completing Investigate the Selunite Resistance requires you to explore a couple of places in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. This is the same region where you can find the Thorm Mausoleum.
Starting the quest
You can initiate the quest by opening a chest inside a building located in an unmarked part of the map. This building is due south of the Last Light Inn.
Once you’ve found this random building, enter it and head for the back of the room. You’ll find the chest you need on an elevated section that you can reach by using Shadow Step, smashing some urns, or jumping to it.
Once you reach the chest, you can move it to a party member with high Dexterity to open it with some Thieves’ Tools. After opening the chest, you will be directed to the Last Light Inn.
Investigating the Last Light Inn
When you get to the Last Light Inn, head for its basement. Once you’re there, enter the door on the southern wall and follow these steps:
- Pick up the Last Light Detention Cell Key on the small round table in the area. Use the key to open the cell directly across from the table.
- Enter the cell and destroy the cracked wall you find inside. Before entering the cracked wall, be prepared to fight a group of Meenlocks.
- Once you’ve disposed of the Meenlocks, move to the back of the cavern. There, you will find an altar that has Halfred’s Notes.
- Read the notes and you can continue on to the next portion of the quest.
Exploring the Masons Guild
After reading Halfred’s Notes, a quest marker will appear at the Masons Guild to continue the Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest. Here’s what to do once you get there:
- Inside the first room you enter, go to the northwest corner and look for an Ornate Wooden Hatch.
- The hatch will lead you to an area underneath the guild. Once you get there, approach the left wall to initiate some Perception checks. Pass these checks to reveal a Keyholed Herald.
- If you’ve obtained the Tower Shaped Key from an NPC named Mattis at the Last Light Inn, you can use it on this keyhole. If you don’t have the key, you can also try picking the lock.
- After making it past the Keyholed Herald, look for the Masons Note on a wall. Read it and you will be attacked by some Shadow Wraiths.
- Defeat the wraiths and continue going until you reach a large room that looks like a dining hall. Look for the Mason’s Log on the table and read it.
Reading the Mason’s Log will end the quest. You won’t get any rare or powerful items, but you will learn some things about the Shadow-Cursed Lands and General Thorm.
