Looking to get your hands on the Mourning Frost quarterstaff in Larian’s Dungeons and Dragons game? If you are, you’ll need some Baldur’s Gate 3 icy metal to craft it.
You will come across a lot of useful items such as the Chest of the Mundane and sussur blooms in Baldur’s Gate 3, but there’s nothing quite like having a trusty weapon by your side. After all, equipping yourself with the right weapons could determine the outcome of a battle before it even begins.
So, let’s figure out how to get some Baldur’s Gate 3 icy metal so you can craft yourself a Mourning Frost quarterstaff.
How to get icy metal in Baldur’s Gate 3
To obtain the icy metal in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to help out an NPC named Spaw. This person is found in the Myconid Circle in the Underdark.
Here’s a more detailed look at what you need to do to get icy metal.
- Look for Spaw in the Myconid Circle and agree to help him.
- Make your way to the Underdark Beach to fight a Duegar.
- After defeating the Duegar, return to Spaw.
- Spaw will open a Gnarled Door. Go through the door and you will find a dead Drow.
- Loot the Drow’s corpse and you should find icy metal in his inventory.
You’ll need two more items, the icy crystal and the icy helve, along with the icy metal to craft the weapon Mourning Frost. These two ingredients can also be found in the Underdark.
What does Mourning Frost do?
Having the Mourning Frost equipped will grant the wielder Heart of Ice and Insidious Cold. When a character deals Cold damage with the weapon on, Heart of Ice will provide an additional 1 Cold damage while Insidious Cold will give a spell a chance of inflicting Chilled on its target.
Equipping Mourning Frost will also give the wearer access to the Ray of Frost evocation cantrip, making it possible for everyone to take advantage of its bonuses.
