Baldur's Gate 3 Dark Urge

Keeping in line with its ties to DnD, Larian’s latest role-playing game encourages players to create their own characters for a unique gaming experience. The game also gives you the option to play as preset Origin characters. Among these preset character choices, the Baldur’s Gate 3 Dark Urge may be one that catches your eye.

While playing through Baldur’s Gate 3, having several companions join you on your quest is a big part of the game. Most of these companions will also be your choices if you decide to play as an Origin character.

But what about the Baldur’s Gate 3 Dark Urge? How does it differ from the other Origin characters? Let’s dive in and find out.

What is the Dark Urge?

With the ability to build your own character from scratch or play as an Origin character, the Dark Urge is a sort of in-between for these two options. If you decide to play as the Dark Urge, you will still get to choose your class and race, but a preset backstory will already be established for your character.

Playing as the Dark Urge will also give you access to unique interactions and dialogue options when going through the game. For example, the narrator may bring up the urge for otherwise dull events and you may end up maiming one of your companions.

Resting at your camp as the Dark Urge can also trigger some nightmare scenes that can lead to you either acting on your urges or learning about your past.

Should you choose the Dark Urge?

Deciding to play as the Dark Urge, any of the other Origin characters, or as your very own creation is entirely up to you. However, many wouldn’t recommend choosing the Dark Urge for your first Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough.

Trying to choose between giving in to your urges or resisting them adds an extra layer to the already complex narrative of Baldur’s Gate 3. Indulge in these urges and there’s a good chance you’ll end up suffering dire consequences.

So if it is your first time playing Baldur’s Gate 3, you may feel overwhelmed by everything that comes with playing as this Origin character. It’s better to get your bearings on the game by playing as an original character first before dabbling with the Dark Urge.
