Bard

  • Tier ranking: S
  • Class type: Supporting and skills provider
  • Attributes: Dexterity, Charisma, Constitution, Intelligence

Bards are very good at manipulating people, so they are a great resource to have in some situations. Conversely, they are not at all strong fighters, so you don’t want them at the front of your team. Keep them in the back as they have many support spells, they can also heal and control accordingly. Compared to wizards, they can take more of a beating in combat, but don’t leave them alone too long.

Your bards might not have any massively damaging magic, but they can often avoid fighting altogether with honeyed words and bewitching effects, or deducing an alternative path, if you push into an Intelligence build. College of Valour is probably the best subclass you can choose for your Bard, giving them more of an edge in combat.

Barbarian

  • Tier ranking: B
  • Class type: Strong aggressive tank
  • Primary Attributes: Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Wisdom

Barbarians are quite a bit of a tank. In that, they feature more health points than any other classes, making them a perfect choice to be at the front of your team. They can use Raging to gain some strong combat bonuses too. As you might expect, they are not that useful in other regards. Surely you don’t want them to talk your way out of a situation.

If you want to go for a good subclass, we’d recommend the Berserker. Using Frenzy you can have access to some crazily strong attacks, along with bonus actions. Destroy those enemies and leave destruction in your wake.

Cleric

  • Tier ranking: S
  • Class type: Spellcaster supporting team
  • Primary Attributes: Wisdom, Constitution, Strength

Despite what you might be thinking, Clerics are actually one of the strongest classes in BG3. Not only can they heal and support your team, but they are quite strong warriors too. Equip them with medium armor, so they even take less damage, and they seem to be one of the most versatile classes in the game.

As for subclasses, you can go for both Life and Light Domain. Life clearly will boost your healing powers, granting also the possibility to wear heavy armor if you want.

Druid

  • Tier ranking: B
  • Class type: Spellcaster who can control natural units.
  • Attributes: Wisdom, Constitution, Dexterity.

We all know we are going to choose Druids for Wild Shape. The power allows them to transform into animals, thus allowing them to also interact with other beasts. But that’s not all, in beast form Druids transform into one serious tank.

Except for that, Druid can have access to a lot of useful spells, even though none of them seem to be incredibly groundbreaking. As for subclasses, we’d absolutely recommend going for Circle of the Moon. That enhances your Wild Shape, transforming your Druid in an absolutely crazy beast, slashing enemies.

Fighter

  • Tier ranking: B
  • Class type: A fighter who gets down and dirty
  • Primary Attributes: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom

The Fighter does indeed have a generic name and its character definitely does follow. It can be a flexible class to choose, as they are able to use any weapon or armor. We’d recommend choosing either a more aggressive fighter or a more flexible one at the start. Focus on developing those Strength or Dexterity skills.

In your team, Lae'zel should serve most of your fighting needs. But be sure to take a look at the Battle Master subclass, as it allows access to many powerful abilities, such as Disarming Attack or Pushing Attack. useful in many different situations.

Paladin

  • Tier ranking: A
  • Class type: Strong spellcaster and healer
  • Primary Attributes: Strength, Charisma, Constitution, Wisdom

They are a more flexible form of the Clerics. Paladins can get down and dirty in melee combat, so you can put them in front of your team. But they also can be great support units, with healing and support spells. They can also be of help in some iffy situation when you need a smooth talker.

For subclass, we’d recommend going for Oath of the Ancients, as that features some quite useful skills, such as teleporting. Otherwise, Oath of Devotion is also a pretty strong choice anyway.

Ranger

  • Tier ranking: C
  • Class type: Useful fighter who attacks from a distance
  • Primary Attributes: Dexterity, Wisdom, Constitution, Strength

With its many hit points, Rangers might indeed serve as a good unit to keep in your rear. But they aren’t, overall, necessary as they might be in other games. Even if you train them in Dexterity as much as possible, they are just mildly useful attackers. Considering the much stronger cleric and Paladin, they can be skipped if you want.

As for subclass, there’s not much we can recommend, but with Beastmaster you might be able to conjure up animals to fight for you. If anything, that’s something that is pretty fun to do.

Rogue

  • Tier ranking: B
  • Class type: Great at sneaking around with some strong attacks
  • Attributes: Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma

Rogues possess a great set of skills, all varied which might make them good in a lot of different situations. They also have great mobility and can bring you some powerful sneak attacks that hit more often than miss. But still, if it should miss, that still means your Rogue will probably not make it back alive. You might have one in your party, if you need someone that scouts around undetected, but except for that, there is no great use for a Rogue in Baldur’s Gate 3.

But there might be good if you need someone to be good at grabbing items. This can be done through Fast Hands, with the Thief subclass. This is a great way to get your hands on expensive stuff when you don’t have the money or just want to save some coins. For now, that’s our main recommendation.

Sorcerer

  • Tier ranking: A
  • Class type: A frail spellcaster able to deal great damage.
  • Attributes: Charisma, Constitution, Dexterity

The Sorcerer is able to deal some very massive damage in Baldur’s Gate 3. But of course, this doesn’t mean you can leave them alone in the frontline. They are very much frail against all kinds of attacks and don’t have any defense to speak of. Nor do they have weapon skills, so you better be ready to defend them as much as possible.

With Charisma skills, you have a great selection of stuff you can use for your Sorcerer. Coupled with the Draconic Bloodline subclass, means you can be sure your Sorcerer might be able to survive more battles, along with some very interesting dragon-related bonuses.

Warlock

  • Tier ranking: A
  • Class type: A strong spellcaster with great versatility.
  • Attributes: Charisma, Constitution, Dexterity

Imagine the Warlock as being a Rogue with some great magical powers. Thus, it is a bit of a versatile figure which can be good in many different situations. Good for everything, but does not really excel at something in particular. They can wear medium armor, have some pretty decent hit points and an interesting pool of spells. They are, all around solid, just not exceptional.

They also rely on Charisma for spellcasting, so this means they can also come to your aid in a pinch. Together with a subclass such as The Fiend, Warlock gains better combat powers. Plus, if you throw in some interesting invocation powers, they can also bring some added fun with creatures. .

Wizard

  • Tier ranking: A
  • Class type: A flexible spellcaster.
  • Primary Attributes: Intelligence, Constitution, Dexterity

The Wizard is a nicely flexible spellcaster, much like the Fighter for melee combat. They can specialize in whatever spell school you might like, but still they cannot heal. As might be expected, they don’t have any great defense powers, so keep them in the back.

They have a lot of magic points, so they rarely will run out of magic to cast. But, if they do, be ready to get them out of the situation as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you’ll be short a wizard pretty soon. With a minimum spending, also, it is possible to make them learn whatever spell you like through a simple scroll.

As for subclass, we’d recommend going for Evocation much like the Warlock. You can spread various strong elemental attacks that will definitely do some strong damage. They are a character that can easily thrive on their own.

That is all we have for you on our Baldur’s Gate 3 class tier list. If you are looking for more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to check out our guide on how to save the game.
