New VR venues to open in the UK next year: Is this the future of entertainment?

Things are undoubtedly going to be a bit weird for the next few months, and possibly even years, as the world slowly (hopefully) recovers from COVID and all of the chaos that it has wrought.

Well, what if VR was the future for us all?

Not the whole future, of course, but part of it.

That's what Atmos VR thinks could be the case anyway.

Would you go to a VR club?

It's a strange concept, but it's one that marks the flexibility of VR technology as an entertainment medium, not just as something to game on at home.

"Atmos VR’s aim is to bring creative content to life using the latest immersive technology, constantly evolving VR and beyond and pushing the experiential boundaries of immersive experiences."

The first venue is going to be in the West Midlands, but there are eight planned across the UK in the next five years that will offer "free-roaming four-dimensional experiences with senses enhanced on every level. This could include: moving floors, the ability to feel things around you, pick up and touch virtual objects in the game and smell the atmosphere."

Who are Atmos VR?

Atmos VR is a company dedicated to bringing VR to the mainstream. It was founded by Kevin Blair, who went from the RAF to PRG group and is using all of the skills he's acquired across his unique career to bring Atmos VR into the limelight.

The aim of the company is to create a good fun experience for people. "The new multiplayer ‘free-roaming’ interactive game has been finalised with post-COVID audiences in mind and will offer strictly player number controlled, socially-distanced entertainment across the one-hour shows when it opens in 2021."

It's an interesting concept, though we'll have to see how it does before making any judgements.
