Nintendo's former president Satoru Iwata conducted several interviews with video game developers as part of his Iwata Asks series, which spanned the DS, Wii, 3DS and Wii U eras.

These interviews were compiled into a book in 2019 by the Japanese publisher Hobonichi, which released exclusively in Japanese as a hardback.

However, following an announcement in 2020, the book is now set to release later this year through the publisher Viz Media, with pre-orders now available, as spotted by VGC.

What is the Ask Iwata book?

Ask Iwata: Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's Legendary CEO is an English translation of Hobonichi's original compilation, set to launch on April 15, 2021 in the UK, and on April 13 in the US through the manga publisher Viz Media.

The hardback book, which is 172 pages long, includes Iwata's interviews with the likes of Shigeru Miyamoto and Earthbound's creator, Shigesato Itoi, who also played a large part in publishing the original Ask Iwata book.

Rather than being simply a collection of interviews, Ask Iwata offers an insight into the late Nintendo president's philosophies and beliefs, alongside his relationship with Nintendo figures such as Shigeru Miyamoto.

If you want a brief preview of Ask Iwata, a collection of his interviews remains available on the Nintendo website from this link.

As confirmed by Viz Media, Ask Iwata will be available from Waterstones, Book Depository and Amazon in the UK ahead of its release in April. The book can also be bought from Barnes & Noble, BAM, Bookshop.org and Indie Bound, according to Simon & Schuster.

Ask Iwata will cost £18.99 ($22.99) to buy and is currently already the No.1 best-seller in Amazon's Sport & Entertainment Industry section. It is only available in hardback form.

The original Japanese version was widely praised by critics and consumers alike, with the book receiving a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Amazon as of the time of writing.
