Apple bans employees from ChatGPT as it makes its own AI

iPhone and Mac company Apple has banned the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT by employees as it creates its own alternative.

Leaked internal documents from the company has revealed a company-wide restriction on rival AI products such as ChatGPT and Google Bard in the workplace.

Reported by The Wall Street Journal, Large Language Model AI programs are heavily restricted within the iPhone company. However, Apple is allegedly working on its own alternative to the technology that employees may be able to use in the future.

However, Apple is far from the first company to block the use of AI from the workplace. For example, tech giant Amazon has stopped all employees from engaging in large language models for jobs such as customer service.

One of the main reasons why companies such as Apple have banned the use of AI tools is due to data security. While there are obvious reasons to not use misinformed chatbots for work, there’s serious concerns due to the tools’ use for sensitive NDA-protected materials.

While there are options to turn off employee data logging on tools such as ChatGPT, these tools learn from data that users feed them. Using the tool is not only ethically concerning for the workplace, but also an unnecessary risk for a company that already battles leaks on a daily basis such as Apple.

However, the most curious part of the Journal’s report is that Apple is currently working on its own AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT.

Apple already has a long background of AI tools such as Siri, Object Detection and more. The company also has a long history of pairing its AI tools with augmented reality technology.

The iPhone company working in its own version of ChatGPT is far from surprising. With how archaic its Siri chat assistant is, Apple’s new AI might be a great replacement in the near future.

After a few months of countless copycats, an official ChatGPT App is now available on iPhone. Also available on Android, the new app is a safer way of using OpenAI’s massively popular internet tool.
