While much of the focus on gaming hardware in the past six months has been on the PS5 and Series X, both AMD and NVIDIA remain locked in a back-and-forth duel over the GPU crown.

Following the release of the RTX 3060 last month, AMD has now hit back with the reveal of a new mid-range card aimed at those who use 1440p monitors - the Radeon RX 6700 XT.

Here's what you need to know about the AMD's upcoming product.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT specs and features

Aimed at 1440p gaming, the RX 6700 XT features 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, using AMD's RDNA 2 architecture and 96MB of AMD Infinity Cache to further enhance its gaming performance.

"The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card hits the sweet spot for 1440p gaming," said Scott Herkelman, corporate vice president and general manager, Graphics Business Unit at AMD. "For most gamers still playing on three-to-four-year-old graphics cards, it is the perfect upgrade solution designed to deliver incredible visuals and no-compromises, high-refresh 1440p gaming performance at maximum settings."

As a result of the RDNA 2 architecture, the 6700 XT will support raytracing to deliver real-time lighting and shadows. This can be paired with AMD's FidelityFX - integrated into over 40 games - to further enhance these effects with minimal performance impact.

For those concerned, there will be no hash rate limits on the 6700 XT. Hash rate limits were placed on the RTX 3060 by NVIDIA in a bid to prevent cryptocurrency miners from buying the latest graphics card.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Release Date and Price

The RX 6700 XT is set to launch later this month on March 18, following its reveal on March 3.

It will cost $479 at launch. This pricing places the 6700 XT in the mid-range of the latest GPUs released, just in between the RTX 3060 and RTX 3070 cards. The pricing in pounds has yet to be revealed, but $479 roughly converts to £343.

As with every other graphics card and next-gen console that has released in the past six months, those wanting to pick up the 6700 XT will face stiff competition amid component shortages, with scalpers, crypto miners and other gamers all set to face off on March 18 over AMD's latest card.
