The upcoming AM5 socket may not have an official release date, but as usual, there are clues to be found on the web, with one in particular catching our eye.
Let's take a closer look.
AM5 Release Date
We don't have an official release date just yet, however, some are assuming that it will be released in 2022, thanks to leaked information and news regarding the official release of DDR5 RAM.
This leaked information has yet to be confirmed by AMD and comes in the form of a partial roadmap, so even if true, it well be subject to change.
What it shows is that the AM5 socket and next generation of Ryzen processors could be expected to launch in 2022.
But how credible is the leak?
Well, this roadmap is given credit by how the Ryzen 5000 series processors featured the "Warhol" codename and followed the Vermeer processors. This means that the next processor's code name will be Raphael and feature the Zen 4 microarchitecture that will need to use the new AM5 socket.
AM5 Rumors and Specifications
The AM4 socket was promised to be utilized up to 2020, which has been honored, but AMD has yet to make the same promise about the AM5 socket.
The longevity of the socket has yet to be confirmed and, with the rapid development that AMD has been doing to it, Ryzen processors may lead to it becoming obsolete in just a few years.
The AM5 socket is rumored to offer support for DDR5 memory, which features not only faster speeds but higher capacities when compared to the AM4 socket.
We'll be on hand with the latest news and updates as they come in surrounding the AM5 socket, so be sure to check back in with us soon.
