With all the talk of games being more and more expensive, it's important to keep in mind that some games are extortionately priced.
Sure, these aren't the latest games, and they're nearly always collector's items, but it's still incredible to think about how much money there is in this part of the games industry.
Well, the record for the most expensive game of all-time has been broken again, and this time it's a game you'll probably know and love.
It's still a staggering amount though, even if you do love the good old days of gaming.
A rare copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 has sold for just so much money
As reported by VGC, a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 has sold for $156,000.
For reference, assuming games average out at $60 each, that's 2,600 games worth of money. It's also enough to buy a house in some places of the world, or rent a small shed in London.
This beats out the previous record-holder which was set in July 2020 by Super Mario Bros. which sold for $114,000.
Why on earth did it sell for so much though, what about this specific copy made it so expensive?

Why was it worth so much?
According to the press release from Heritage Auctions, "While the condition of the game is remarkable, what makes this copy even more singular is the layout of the packaging itself: Exceedingly rare are sealed copies with the word ‘Bros.’ formatted to the left, covering one of Mario’s signature white gloves."
That might not seem like much to most people, but apparently, people have been looking for this version of the packaging for a very long time.
It's absurd to imagine spending that much money on a game you're not going to play, but apparently not for everyone.
