There you are, auto-scrolling through your TikTok feed, watching the latest TikTok trends and other funny videos, and suddenly you stumble upon a black screen that says “This post is age-protected.” Well, you are not alone.

Over the past months, many adults have been reporting instances of TikTok restricting their access to certain posts, showing the error message “Post unavailable: This post is age-protected.”

If you are one of these users and have been experiencing this glitch, then here's what you need to do.

How to fix the "This post is age-protected" glitch on TikTok

With the rising number of teens and preteens, the short video platform has certain restrictions in place to censor the content from the "For You" page and in DMs that can be inappropriate for minors (13 - 17 years age group).

Certain TikTok videos are now being blocked from viewing with a splash screen proclaiming that the post is age-protected, which at first might seem like a bug, but it's actually a new feature designed to keep the platform's young audience from being exposed to unsuitable content.

Although it is not a bug, some adults are also finding that the platform is restricting their access to certain content, which is probably a bug. But if you're having trouble accessing age-restricted posts, we've got a solution for you.

If you are 18 or older

One reason you are unable to view age-restricted posts is that you might have been hit by the Tiktok restricted mode glitch or you have enabled it by mistake. If that is the case, follow the steps below to turn off the age restriction on TikTok.

If you are younger than 18

For users under 18 that see a warning message that says “Post unavailable: This post is age-protected” message when they tap on a TikTok video, it's not an error. That’s just TikTok blocking the content because, they think, it is too graphic or mature for you.

The content blocking is turned on by default for users in the 13 - 17 years age group and there is no way to disable this safety tool; it automatically kicks into action based on the account owner’s age.

In other words, if you are younger than 18, there is no way to bypass the mature content blocker on TikTok. Of course, you can create a new account or use an already existing one that’s 18+, but it is not recommended.
