The Mandalorian Season 3 will be less about Grogu, more about Din Djarin

The first two seasons of The Mandalorian were an undeniable success, no doubt due to the inclusion of the viral sensation, Grogu. Known colloquially as Baby Yoda, the tiny green companion has carried the show so hard that he’s impossible to escape.

However, while Grogu has been the driving force of the series up the this point, The Mandalorian Season 3 is set to switch things up. Instead of focusing so heavily on Grogu, the series will explore more of, well, The Mandalorian.

It’s time to explore more of Din Djarin

For the coming third season of the Disney Plus show, Lucasfilm is focusing more on the culture of Mandalorians. With Din Djarin kicked out of the religion, but in control of the Darksaber, there’s a lot of tension that’s been built up.

Season 3 will focus more on this side of Din Djarin, instead of relying so heavily on Grogu’s cult appeal. For example, the main storyline will focus on Djarin travelling to the destroyed Mandalore to restore his status.

This will certainly bring conflict from Death Watch, Bo Katan, as well as her group. With Katan looking to take the Darksaber for herself, Djarin’s exiles status will surely come into play, making things even harder for the bounty hunter.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Grogu won’t be a main character. After The Book of Boba Fett, the adorable companion is back with his space dad, but The Empire is still looking for him. Additionally, after refusing his Jedi training, Luke Skywalker may want to contact him again.

Other Mandalorians will feature heavily in The Mandalorian Season 3

Due to the new season focusing more heavily on Mandalorians in general, more of the warrior race will turn up. Additionally, characters we’ve only seen briefly before will have more screen time.

For example, in an interview with Screen Rant, The Armorer actress Emily Swallow confirmed that her character will have a larger presence in Season 3.

“She will, yes,” Swallows said. “So maybe we’ll learn more, or maybe she’ll remain a mystery.”

Swallows explained that a lot of the mystery surrounding the character will be explored, as well as other Mandalorians. The actress said:

“She represents so many ideas, she represents this larger influence in Din Djarin’s life, so I find it is helpful to not attach super specific personal things to her. I do that for more personal moments, I do that for more personal interactions she has with him. I do sort of attach things that I can connect to, that I find could help with particular scenes. But I find it is constantly shifting, depending on what new information they give me for what’s going to happen in an episode.“

The Mandalorian Season 3 looks like it will be delving deep into Star Wars lore, deconstructing basic characters into more complex ones. If a character as simple as The Armorer will have an expanded role, we can expect something very special.
