Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 will tell an all-new story, says director

Obi-Wan Kenobi is nearing its end. The limited run series was designed to be the first and only series focusing on the beloved Jedi hermit. However, with fans in love with the story and Ewan McGregor wanting to return, it looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is inevitable.

Director teases Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2

In an interview with RadioTimes, series director Deborah Chow revealed this this might not be the only series for Ewan McGregor’s Jedi. However, any other series would focus on a different story than the current narrative.

While Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 might happen, fans shouldn’t expect more of Princess Leia or the Inquisitors. Instead, it would be something entirely new, unlike The Mandalorian where stories typically revolve around Grogu.

“You know, we always did conceive of this as a limited series," Chow told the outlet. "So it's not an adventure-of-the-week sort of story. It's one big story with a beginning, middle and end. So I think this story was very much conceived to be its own standalone."

This doesn’t mean that beloved characters from the ongoing limited run story can’t return. For example, young Luke Skywalker could appear or one of the Inquisitors. However, the story would not be a direct continuation.

There’s a lot of time to play with

Chow explains that the ongoing show will leave a lot of time to play with after it finishes. With the show finishing 9 years before the start of A New Hope, there’s a lot of stories that could be told in that gap.

“There are of course more stories that you could tell,” Chow said. “There's obviously another 10 years before we get to A New Hope and with a character like Obi-Wan Kenobi, I think even just watching him ride across the sand sometimes is interesting. So, who knows? It's hard to say right now, but it was not the intention."

Even if Obi-Wan stays on Tatooine until the events of the original Star Wars, there is still a tonne of stories there. For example, the Jedi could get roped up in one of the many crime syndicates on the sandy planet.

However, before Chow does start work on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, there’s something she desperately needs: a vacation. She said:

"Honestly, at this point, the only thing I'm thinking about is taking vacation. I haven't gotten there. I can't even conceive of it yet. I just need to actually finish the show to get there first."

What do we want to see?

Personally, Obi-Wan Kenobi could end after one season, and we’d be happy. While the ongoing show is fantastic, it’s also good when things end on a high note.

However, if the series is to continue, we would like it to be more about Obi-Wan finding himself and becoming more of the relaxed hermit he is in A New Hope. Maybe it’s simply a slice-of-life series about him on Tatooine, occasionally helping out Owen and Beru, or trying to haggle with Watto.

Actually, more of Obi-Wan and the Jawas would be cool. We love Jawas.
