Having to buy the same game twice, just because you want to play it on your old hardware AND your shiny new console, can be very frustrating for gamers - that's why Microsoft has invented Smart Delivery, a service that will let you buy a game once and play it on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
This particular Xbox Series X feature could save us from a common pratfall of being an early adopter of a new console - wasting lots of money on buying games that you've already purchased for previous hardware.

As Microsoft previously explained on the official Xbox Wire website, "We’re making the commitment to use Smart Delivery on all our exclusive Xbox Game Studios titles, including Halo Infinite, ensuring you only have to purchase a title once in order to play the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on."
And now we're hearing that you'll be able to use Smart Delivery to jump back and forth between generations! So if you plan on having an Xbox One in your office and an Xbox Series X in your living room, you'll be able to use Smart Delivery to play the same game across these two devices...
Smart Delivery will allow you to jump back and forth between your Xbox One and Xbox Series X
If you're wondering whether Xbox Series X Smart Delivery will allow you to jump back and forth between your new console and your old one - using the Xbox Series X and the Xbox One to play the same game - we've got some good news for you!
In a new edition of the Xbox Wire blog, Microsoft explained the situation like so:
"When Halo Infinite launches alongside Xbox Series X and Xbox One this holiday, you only have to buy the game once and you’ll get the best version for whichever console you own, or both. If you pick up Xbox Series X for your living room, Smart Delivery will recognize that and deliver you the Optimized version there. If you decide to move your existing Xbox One to a bedroom or the office, Smart Delivery will recognize that too and deliver that version when you’re playing on Xbox One."

So, is it worth keeping your Xbox One, even after you've bought an Xbox Series X?
If your living room TV with the Xbox Series X attached is likely dominated by your kids, loved ones or flatmates, it might well be worth keeping your Xbox One and sticking it in a different room.
With Smart Delivery, you'll be able to play the same games on both consoles with ease. So when you can get to your Xbox Series X, you'll see the better graphics and other advancements. But when you're on the Xbox One, games like Halo Infinite will also be playable.
