The internet is an odd place, so it shouldn't feel as strange as it does to dispel this rumour. But still, it's with a sense of not being sure what reality is anymore that I type this sentence: no, despite what you might have heard on Twitter, Burger King did not reveal the User Interface for Sony's PlayStation 5 console.
Rumours of the fast-food monarch unveiling the PS5 UI began when a promo video circulated, showing the eponymous Burger King opening a brown bag and hearing what appears to be the start-up sound of the hotly-anticipated PS5.

But now, with some time having passed, we have a better idea about the PS5 tie-in that Burger King is promoting. Sony revealed the PS5 UI on its own, but Burger King is up to something...
What Burger King is doing instead of revealing the PS5 UI
In case you missed the Twitter interaction between Burger King and PlayStation which got the internet talking, you can take a look at the crown-wearing Whopper mascot in action here...
The hint of a PS5 sound, which comes from within a bag in the video, led some onlookers to believe that Burger King was about to become the unlikely source of a PS5 UI reveal. But instead, Sony shared its own video and blog post to reveal the console's User Interface.
Jump forward to today, though, and the truth of Burger King's PlayStation promotion has become clear: as the Burger King website itself has explained, the fast-food company is simply running a competition to give away some PS5 consoles.

How to win a PS5 from Burger King
One thousand PS5 consoles are going to be given away in this sweepstake, alongside a whole host of secondary prizes, and the Burger King website sums up the competition like so:
"Simply download the Burger King App on your phone or visit BK.com to register. Once registered, there are 3 ways to participate:
- Make a minimum $5 pre-tax Qualifying Purchase on BK App or BK.com and you will automatically earn a game token, which can be used to immediately play the game.
- Make a minimum $5 pre-tax Qualifying Purchase at participating Burger King restaurant and input receipt information (Order Number, Restaurant Number, Time of Purchase, and Purchase Amount) on BK App or BK.com to earn a game token, which can be used to immediately play the game.
- Mail in Method: To participate without purchase, handprint your full name, full mailing address, email address, phone number, birth month and birth year) on a plain 3x5 inch sheet of paper. The terms and conditions add: "The Promotion is open only to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States (excluding Hawaii and Alaska) and the District of Columbia, who are 18 (except Alabama and Nebraska 19 and 21 Mississippi) years of age or older at the time of Promotion registration."
