World of Warcraft devs have confirmed that they'll be bringing 40 player raids back during the final phase of the World of Warcraft Season of Discovery.

In an exclusive interview, Dexerto spoke to Lead Software Engineer Nora Valletta and Senior Game Producer Josh Greenfield about the state of World of Warcraft Season of Discovery and their future plans for the upcoming two phases.

The final phase of the Season of Discovery barely has any information, and anticipation is high regarding the endgame for this season. Each new phase has upped the levels and increased the stakes. So, it's safe to say that the final phase will have the peak of endgame content.

When asked to comment on the contents of the final phase, Josh Greenfield said, “There are a lot of folks who say, ‘I have this guild and there are six 10-player raid teams. I really just want 40 player raiding again.’ Then there’s a lot of people who say, ‘I really love 10-player raiding, and that’s what we want forever.’ I don’t think there’s an objectively correct decision, it’s mostly just preference,”.

The developers have tried to reach a compromise to reconcile this contradiction and division between the player base. There's good news for both camps of players, as they'll be trying to cater to them. However, one thing is confirmed.

“What we’re trying to do is not take anything away from anyone. Those raids that were 40-player will likely stay 40-player. Now, will they look exactly the same? Hard to say, and that’s not something we’re ready to talk about right now. There are some things you can expect to stay the same, and there are some things that will change a lot. There will be some form of 40-player raiding at some point.” he further clarified.

40 player raids are confirmed for the final phase of the World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, but they'll have many many changed mechanics to cater to smaller groups of players, apparently. We're excited to see how the final phase of the Season of Discovery pans out and if the developers will be able to satisfy both camps of players.

It could become a mainstay in future World of Warcraft expansions and events if done correctly.
