What If...? Season 2 confirmed alongside Captain Carter trade tease

We’re only a few days away from the first season of Marvel’s alternate reality series, What If …? and one of the show’s executive producers has already confirmed there will be What If...? Season 2. The unique series is based on a 70s comic run of the same name, which took popular characters and reimagined them in alternative universes.

What If…?’s first season includes episodes based on a zombie Captain America, T’Challa as Star Lord and an episode where Peter Rodgers becomes Iron Man. The episode in which T’Challa plays Star Lord will be the late Chadwick Boseman’s last appearance as the character.

What If …? Season 2 confirmed

Executive producer Brad Winderbaum recently took part in a virtual conference promoting the first season of the show. While Winderbaum primarily discussed the first season of the show. However, he did provide fans with a glimpse into the future, particularly the future of a certain Captain Carter.

“We realized early on in development as we were starting to get [AC Bradley's] scripts and starting to look at the arc of the series that there was going to be a character that bubbled up and became more important,” stated Winderbaum.

The producer added: "Not more important than the rest, but [one that] had a strong relationship with The Watcher, who is really our driving force behind the series, and that’s Captain Carter. We realized as we started developing the second season that Captain Carter was going to be the character who we would revisit in every season and continue that adventure.”

Captain Carter

Winderbaum did not provide any specific details on their plans for Captain Carter. However, it would appear the writing team is aiming to play the long game. Other What If…? episodes are completely self-contained, so Marvel is clearly looking to build something more substantial with Captain Carter.

Considering the MCU is about to spill over into multiple alternative realities in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Marvel had even bigger plans for Captain Carter further down the line.
