HBO’s The Last of Us show is already a huge success, bringing in millions of viewers during its premiere. Just like Netflix’s The Witcher series, viewers of the new show have decided to go straight to the source, purchasing The Last of Us Part 1 on PlayStation 5, sending the game to the top of sales charts.

We’ve seen similar success happen with other video game adaptations. Recently, Netflix’s release of Cyberpunk Edgerunners resulted in a huge uptick in sales, leading people to believe the game is actually good.

It will be interesting to see if the success of The Last of Us is reflected in the game’s sequel once the show’s second season comes out. While changes will be made, it seems that the show will be a pretty faithful adaptation and we can only imagine how fans will react to season 2.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, The Last of Us Part 1 saw a huge bump in sales after the first episode came out. The PS5 remake saw an impressive 230% increase in sales, making it to no. 20 on the UK charts. PS4 owners also shelled out some cash, as The Last of Us Remastered made it to no. 32 in said charts.

Despite the story being a familiar one to both gaming and zombie aficionados, HBO’s The Last of Us already has the second-highest premiere numbers for HBO Max. While it didn’t beat House of the Dragon, 4.7 million viewers is still an impressive number. It makes sense that those fans would want to check out the game.

Funnily enough, despite a huge spike in interest for Naughty Dog’s PlayStation masterpiece, neither title was able to make it to no. 1. Unsurprisingly, that honor went to Fire Emblem Engage, which came out last week and is dominating sales charts. It helps that the game also received plenty of good reviews.
