While there's no doubt that VR is still a fairly niche market, that hasn't stopped Valve from developing a brilliant game. Almost four years ago, Valve released the latest title in the long-running Half Life series, Half Life Alyx, as a VR-exclusive on its storefront, and arguably, it's still the best virtual reality game ever made.

Fortunately, Valve hasn't limited the game to its Index VR headsets, so if you own one of the best VR headsets, you can still play Alyx. Of course, you'll need a VR-ready PC to play it, but the investment is a lot less right now, thanks to the fact that the game has a huge 66% discount during the Steam Spring sale.

You don't need to play the rest of the series to enjoy one of the best PCVR games either. Half Life Alyx rewards long-time fans by having familiar faces and a different ending compared to how the flat-screen games play out, but the high-quality game design and a thoughtful narrative makes Half Life Alyx brilliant regardless of your Half Life knowledge.

It's currently available to purchase on Steam for $20.39 / £16.99, and while that might sit around the standard pricing for most VR titles, we'd argue it is definitely worth the investment. For the price, you get roughly 15 hours of story, and there's also lots of mods that either slightly adjust or completely develop upon the foundations that Alyx has provided, much like the modding community for the other Half Life games. And the best part? If you don't enjoy it, you can use Valve's generous refund system to refund the game.

You can also use the brilliant Steam Link app for Quest headsets, letting you play the game without having to be wired to your PC setup. We strongly suggest picking up Half Life Alyx while it's on sale, as it's even worth picking up at full price, too. However, you'll have to buy it before March 21, 2024, if you're want to use the discount.
