Starfield producer urges fans to ignore main quest in favour of faction stories

Just like Bethesda’s iconic Elder Scrolls series, the studio’s upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield will have Factions that have deep storylines outside of the main quest. As it just so happens, one Starfield producer believes that fans should prioritise these faction stories instead of the main campaign.

In a Bethesda blog post, Starfield producer Jamie Mallory revealed that she prefers the game’s multiple Factions to the main storyline. While the producer didn’t say anything bad about the main quest, they urged fans to play through the faction stories first.

“My fellow gamers, I urge you to take a detour from the main storyline and explore the fascinating world of faction quests,” Mallory said. “Trust me, the rewards are well worth the extra time and effort.”

Mallory explains that many gamers may try to beeline the main quest before moving onto the different factions within Starfield’s massive universe. However, they believe that doing faction quests before the end of the main campaign will be far more rewarding.

“I've been diving deep into the quest lines of all the different factions, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the incredible variety in their storylines,” Mallory explained. “It's like unlocking a treasure trove of captivating narratives that many folks might not even realize exist. While some may rush through the main golden path storyline, those intrepid explorers who venture off the beaten path and delve into the faction quests are in for a real treat.”

Starfield may not be as huge as Baldur’s Gate 3’s 17,000 endings and 170 hours of cutscenes, but it’s still a gigantic spacefaring RPG with space combat, ship building and more. With over 100 star systems to explore, this truly is one ambitious RPG.

If Starfield’s factions are anywhere near as awesome as Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim’s, these will undoubtedly be the best parts of the new RPG. After all, how many times have you played through The Dark Brotherhood, and how many times have you beat Alduin?

Starfield releases on Xbox Series and PC on September 6th, or September 1st for Deluxe Edition owners.
