Spider-Man and Venom crossover movie won't be rushed, says Andy Serkis

Sony's ownership of Spider-Man movie rights has led to a conflicted past for the character. Currently, the cinematic webhead is enjoying a tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Sony's future plans for the character will see him eventually take part in a Spider-Man and Venom movie crossover.

When will Spider-Man meet Venom?

Ever since the release of Venom in 2018, fans have been hoping to see the Symbiote fight the webhead. As far as Sony boss Sanford Panitch says, plans for that crossover will become clear with the release of No Way Home.

On the other hand, Venom 2 director Andy Serkis has said that Sony doesn't want to rush the crossover. In an interview with IGN, Serkis revealed that the highly anticipated crossover is definitely happening. He said:

“Everyone wants to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man, personally, it’s not going to happen. I’m kidding. It’s going to happen, the question is when. We don’t want to rush it.”

Will Tom Holland fight Venom?

The success of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the aftermath of Andrew Garfield’s middling reception has made Holland Sony's golden boy. The webhead’s last film, Far From Home, brought in well over a billion dollars at the box office. Sony would do well to try and replicate that success.

On the other hand, Tom Holland’s contract is running out, and the actor does appear to want a break from Spider-Man. However, as Marvel is currently moving away from contracts in general, Holland’s return could just be a matter of agreement.

Then again, Marvel's upcoming No Way Home movie is bringing back past Spideys into the MCU. If Sony really wanted to, this could be a fantastic way to bring either Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire back as the webhead. While Maguire has already fought his own version of Venom, Garfield has never met the Symbiote. It could be an intriguing conclusion.
