Russell Crowe confirmed for Thor: Love and Thunder

Russell Crowe confirmed earlier this week that he will join the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder sequel as Zeus.

Speaking with Australian radio show Joy 94.9 FM, Crowe confirmed he would appear in the film, although there are no more details on how heavily involved Zeus will be.

The news arrives a month after Crowe sparked rumours after being spotted with the cast in Australia close to where the sequel is being filmed.

Thor’s inclusion in the film could hint at a Marvel adaptation of The Olympians in the future. Zeus was a part of The Olympians, who are a group of humanoids that hail from Olympus.

Joy 9.29 Interview

Crowe confirmed the speculation while talking to hosts at LGTBQ+ radio station Joy 94.9.

“I'm gonna ride up to Disney Fox studios, and round about 9:15, I shall be Zeus. It's for Thor. It's my last day of Zeus-ing about and I'm going to enjoy it."

Crowe’s inclusion in the film is supposedly little more than a cameo, but it hints at some interesting outcomes. As previously mentioned, it could mean Marvel intends to incorporate The Olympians, which could include Hercules.

Hercules within the Marvel lore is bisexual, a bit of a party animal and first appeared in the universe when fighting Thor in the 1960s comics.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Love and Thunder will be the third film in the Thor franchise following 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Liam Hemsworth will reprise his role of Thor alongside Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and Christian Bale who’s appearing in the series for the first time.

Development on the film started in March 2020, and shooting began later in the year during August. While filming is still ongoing, Thor: Love and Thunder will release May 6 2022.
