Roblox is now totally for adults with 17+ rated violent games

One of the internet’s most profitable children’s games Roblox is taking the turn to more adult-orientated experiences with the addition of 17+ rated games.

Revealed in an announcement on the Roblox Blog, a new 17+ category will be added to the game’s content library for fans to create more mature-focused titles for gamers.

Games that are included under the new Roblox tag will allow “intense violence, heavy realistic blood, moderate crude humor, romantic themes, unplayable gambling content and/or the presence of alcohol”.

Roblox states that the new addition of mature games is designed to appease the service’s rapidly growing audience of older players. Gamers who have grown up with the online platform will be more inclined to stay with the service with the addition of more mature game modes.

“The fastest-growing age group on Roblox is 17-to-24-year-olds and in 2022,” the blog post reads. “38% of our daily active users were 17 and over. As a natural evolution, we’re now allowing creators to make content specifically for this audience.”

Roblox states that the online platform will allow creators to make “more mature themes and storylines like in TV shows or stand-up comedy. These experiences may contain more violence, blood, or crude humor.”

All of the platform’s 17+ content will be locked behind an age verification system to stop younger players from being able to access more mature content. Players who wish to access the content will have to send in a photo of government-issued ID as well as a selfie to match.

Roblox’s 17+ content will be added to the game in the next few weeks. The tag will be found within the Game Hub, alongside all of the other categories.

Roblox is currently available to play for free on PC, Mobile, Xbox One, Xbox Series, iOS and Android.
