It seems that, whenever Riot releases a game, it goes viral. Valorant and League of Legends are perfect examples of this, with both games being major hits for the developer and publisher. Unfortunately, it seems like the quality of Riot's MMORPG isn't faring well as other titles from the company, with the development being reset.

Confirmed by president of Riot Games, Marc Merrill on Twitter, development on the League of Legends MMO is extended, with Merrill confirming the team has "reset the direction" of the game. However, while this will certainly be disappointing to those wanting a new MMORPG to grind for hundreds of hours, it seems like this was for the best.

Confirming in the same thread, Merrill states that "The initial vision just wasn’t different enough from what you can play today.", adding that "We don’t believe you all want an MMO that you’ve played before with a Runeterra coat of paint". While Riot's competitive FPS, Valorant, has had people compare the game to Valve's popular Counter-Strike series, it's certainly a unique enough spin, so it seems Riot want the MMORPG to have a similarly distinct vibe.

Unfortunately, those waiting for news in the near future are out of luck. In a later tweet from the thread, Merrill confirms that the team won't be sharing news for a while, stating that "Resetting our development path also means we will be "going dark" for a long time—likely several years." However, this gives you a good reason to save up for the best graphics cards and the best gaming monitor for when the game launches. Better yet, you could pick up the MSI monitor that helps you cheat in titles like League of Legends.

Of course, it's a huge shame to know that we won't be playing Riot's MMO in the near future. I've been excited for a new MMO with Riot's coating of visuals and quality, but a late product is better than a rushed product, so we'll be waiting.
