With Xbox and Bethesda’s Starfield on the way, PlayStation is seemingly looking for an exclusive PS5 sci-fi RPG. As it turns out, new rumours claim Sony’s still-unnamed RPG will be developed by People Can Fly, the team behind the live-service game Outriders.

Outriders might have received a mixed reception from fans and critics but People Can Fly has worked on other acclaimed titles. If true, they wouldn’t be a bad developer to craft a new sci-fi RPG… well, as long as it has a focus on shooting.

For the most part, Sony and PlayStation have kept quiet about this new IP, so readers should take this with a grain of salt. That being said, a new Sony IP is always worth talking about, especially with an underrated developer at the helm.

A post from ResetEra claims that the leaked footage of Sony’s sci-fi RPG might have featured the word RED. While that doesn’t mean much in theory, People Can Fly is supposedly working on a project called RED as well, adding some credence to the reports.

People Can Fly previously mentioned their RED project back in 2021, which was in the “concept development phase” at the time. Some time has passed since and though we haven’t heard much about RED from People Can Fly, this could be the project they’re working on.

The last game People Can Fly worked on was Outriders, which had fun gameplay but was criticized for numerous issues. Not helping was the fact that it was yet another live-service game from Square Enix, joining games like Avengers and Babylon’s Fall. However, People Can Fly also worked on fun titles like Bulletstorm and Painkiller, so all hope for the new IP shouldn’t be lost.
