Popular Kylo Ren redemption theory confirmed in new Star Wars book

The redemption of Sith apprentice Kylo Ren back into Ben Solo was a major event for the final entry in The Skywalker Saga. However, despite the character’s huge shift, it was an event that was not very well explained in The Rise of Skywalker.

Just over a year since the movie’s mixed release, the redemption of Kylo Ren has been explained. Detailed in the Skywalker: A Family At War book, a popular fan theory of this event has finally been confirmed.

How was Kylo Ren redeemed?

In the book Skywalker: A Family At War, it was confirmed that the Star Wars villain was redeemed by Rey. Following the self-sacrifice of Ren's mother Leia Organa, the Supreme Leader battled with Rey on Endor. Ren lost the fight.

Instead of leaving Ren to die, Rey used her newly discovered Force Healing power to heal his wounds. Unknowingly, this is the event that pushed out Kylo and brought back Ben Solo. While it was previously believed to be the following talk with his father, Han, we now know the truth.

“Healing through the Force is a peculiar thing,” reads an excerpt from the book. “Rey transferred her own Force energy to the wounded man at her feet; however, the interaction did more than merely mend a gaping wound. Burned flesh and damaged organs were made whole again, and even the scar on his face disappeared. For the first time in more than a decade, Ben Solo’s mind cleared.”

Did Rey follow the same path?

In The Rise of Skywalker, it’s repeatedly shown that Rey is tapping into Dark Side. From a creepy shark-toothed vision to a full-on blast of Force Lightning at a First Order ship, the character struggled with staying good.

However, in the finale of the sequel trilogy, Rey seems to know what she stands on. Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker pushed for a new normal outside of the dogmatic Jedi and Sith in The Last Jedi, but all characters appear firmly on the side of light.

With this in mind, Kylo's Force Healing of Rey at the end of Rise of Skywalker could push Rey back into purity. Much like the reversion of Kylo to Ben, Rey is now back to the pure-minded woman we saw in Force Awakens.
