Fans outside of Japan can finally check out the Pokémon Legends: Arceus anime special this year. Titled Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles, this special takes place before Ash leaves the show, so fans still have some time to spend with the beloved protagonist.
Ash isn’t alone, as the Arceus Chronicles trailer reveals that he will be joined by Goh, Dawn, and long-time companion Brock. While the details are vague, it looks like they will be teaming up with some legendary Pokémon to take on the returning Team Galactic.
It looks like we’re going to get a decent amount of time travel here, which is how we get to the setting of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. We see some of the setting’s unique Pokémon, like Hisuian Growlithe, but none of the characters. This is a shame, though we hope some of the supporting cast make an appearance.
Obviously, this doesn’t completely mimic the game as Ash and co. are only here for a little bit, but it’s good to see this setting again. Hopefully, the game’s isekai nature rears its head and we see people fawn over our leads being really good at catching these monsters.
With references being made to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, alongside Diamond and Pearl with the return of Team Galactic, this could be a fun bit of fanservice. Stakes aren’t too high since we already know Ash rides off to the sunset but fans shouldn’t mind spending more time with him.
This would be a great strategy to increase sales for Legends: Arceus, had the game not sold like hotcakes. Fans were intrigued by the new setting and changes in gameplay, with many calling it the franchise’s best game in years. Scarlet and Violet are arguably more fun but Legends: Arceus didn’t have all of those technical issues at launch.
Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles will be coming to Netfix on September 23. Meanwhile, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is readily available on Nintendo Switch.
