As the iconic mascot of the world’s most popular franchise, Pikachu would presumably be the most popular character in the series. However, it seems that’s just not true, at least not anymore.

At the time of writing, Pokémon is making some substantial changes to the entire franchise. For example, the long-running anime series is being rebooted, abandoning Ash Ketchum and his iconic Pikachu.

Pokémon may even end up moving away from its reliance on the iconic electric mouse. With so many cute critters in its portfolio, the world of Pokémon has a lot to choose from.

As it turns out, the electric mouse is far from the most popular pocket monster. In fact, the iconic creature isn’t even in the top ten most popular characters in the 1000-monster-large Pokédex.

Analytics company Solitaire Bliss, via Game Rant, claims to have definitive data that proves fans care more about other Pokémon in the franchise. Collating search data from Google, Yahoo, and Bing, Solitaire Bliss believes that these are the most popular pocket monsters.

At the very top, the classic hero Pokémon Charizard takes the most popular slot with 240,700 monthly searches. This is followed up by the second most-popular Pokémon Gardevoir with 158,400 total monthly searches.

Here is the full list of most searched Pokémon:

  1. Charizard– 240,700 total monthly searches
  2. Gardevoir – 158,400 total monthly searches
  3. Sylveon – 137,300 total monthly searches
  4. Lucario – 126,200 total monthly searches
  5. Gengar – 113,500 total monthly searches
  6. Umbreon – 113,000 total monthly searches
  7. Garchomp – 93,700 total monthly searches
  8. Mimikyu – 84,300 total monthly searches
  9. Rayquaza – 82,400 total monthly searches
  10. Greninja – 73,100 total monthly searches

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Pikachu isn’t the most popular Pokémon of all time. Over the past 25-years, it’s impossible to deny that more merch of the cute Poké-mascot has been sold than any other character in the series. In fact, the creature likely has sold more merch than most characters that have ever existed.

While the creature may not be your personal favourite — for example, mine is Haunter — no fan truly hates the little electric mouse.
