Microsoft and Atlus have been really friendly in regard to the Persona franchise as of late. So friendly that rumours claim Persona 6 won’t be PlayStation exclusive and will launch simultaneously on PlayStation and Xbox.
Speshal Nick from the Xbox Era podcast claims that the sixth iteration of Atlus’ hit JRPG will be coming to Xbox on day one. This would be a major change since every new Persona game has launched as a PlayStation exclusive.
While Speshal Nick does think Atlus’ cash cow will be coming to Xbox on day one, he’s not sure if it will also launch on the subscription service Xbox Game Pass. Based on the Xbox releases of recent Persona titles, including Persona 3 Reload, that seems very likely.
Reports on Persona 6 have varied as of late, with previous sources claiming that the JRPG would be a PS5 exclusive. Although fans should take these reports with a grain of salt, the recent partnership between Microsoft and SEGA adds some credibility.
Microsoft has poured a ton of money into the franchise to make sure the series is associated with Xbox. When Persona 5 Royal was first re-released, it was announced on Xbox systems first before eventually being confirmed for PS5 and Switch. The company also did additional work to make Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable run best on Xbox systems.
Xbox was also the first to announce the existence of Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica. While those surprises were leaked, it didn’t stop the company from showcasing them during the Xbox Showcase. Every Persona 3 Reload announcement since has also been revealed first on the Xbox platform.
Despite this friendliness, we doubt that Persona 6 and future entries will become exclusive to the system. It seems that Atlus wants to make money from all the gaming systems, due to the hype currently surrounding the series.
At the time of writing, it’s not yet known if Persona 6 actually exists. In the meantime, fans will be able to get Persona 3 Reload on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC early in 2024.
