Persona 3 Reload is still months away from release but Atlus was able to get the game Steam Deck verified already. It’s an impressive feat and one that makes the lack of a Switch release sting a bit less for handheld gamers.
Twitter user Faz noticed that the remake of this beloved PS2 JRPG was recently given the fresh ‘verified’ status for Steam Deck owners. Unless anything funky happens, this means that the JRPG will be playable right out of the box for those with the handheld, which is great news.
Considering how well the Persona series lends itself to the handheld life, having it on Steam Deck at launch should be an optimal way to play it. Since the Deck has been able to handle much more demanding-looking games, it’s safe to say that Persona 3 Reload should run really well.
Admittedly, the ‘verified’ status wouldn’t have stopped Steam Deck owners from making the JRPG work on the high-powered handheld. In addition to the craziness of Persona fans, most Steam Deck owners don’t care about the verification of games.
Obviously, the ‘verified’ status isn’t always a seal of quality, as there have been games that have suffered on Deck. Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios is an obvious example, as the RPG’s third act is considered unplayable by most Deck owners. Hopefully, Reload doesn’t suffer from this and will be pretty playable from start to finish.
Fans have been pretty excited about Persona 3 Reload, even if they do have a few grievances with the remake. While it includes some QOL improvements from Persona 5, the game is also missing some key features from Persona 3 Portable and FES. There won’t be a playable female character, nor will there be post-game content from FES, though AEGIS will have her social link.
Persona 3 Reload is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC on February 2, 2024.
