Persona 3 Reload is a remake that will stay faithful to the PS2 original while also adding some much-needed improvements. While Reload will be keeping some mechanics from Persona 5, there’s also a brand-new feature that’s so useful, that it should be on every Persona game going forward.
During the 2023 Tokyo Game Show (via Noisy Pixel), it was revealed that a feature called Rollback will be a part of Reload. This feature will let players ‘roll back’ to a previous save and redo some actions if players aren’t satisfied with the results.
While that sounds pretty basic, this is a game-changer for the Persona series, as making decisions is the most important part. Rollback will let players try out different conversation choices, test answers, and maybe even ditch going to Tartarus to spend time with friends.
Some could argue that they could just pick ‘Load Data’ in previous installments, but Rollback in Persona 3 Reload seems to be more interesting. Instead of heading back to the start of your save, Rollback will actually let you go to various points in the save, so players can specifically choose a Social Link event or test answer.
As expected, a mechanic like this might be overused so the devs have said that there will be a limit to how many times players can Rollback. This makes sense since it would be too convenient to constantly go back and re-do decisions. Plus, this gives players the excuse to simply reload their save file if they run out of Rollback.
Based on everything we’ve seen thus far, there’s a lot to be excited about for Persona 3 Reload. It seems that characters will be much more fleshed out this time, including the villainous group Strega. Hopefully, this adds some life to the most lifeless entry in the modern trilogy.
Persona 3 Reload is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC on February 2, 2024.
