OnePlus has gone ahead and revealed their OnePlus 9 Pro flagship device.

With a partnership with space photography company Hasselblad, the OnePlus 9 series appears to be going all in on its camera. After last year's controversial x-ray camera stunt, this appears to be a new gimmick that customers can use.

OnePlus 9 Pro release date

After months of speculation, it's been revealed that the OnePlus 9 Pro will be released on March 23rd.

The new phone was revealed via a Twitter post that showed off the design of the upcoming device. Alongside a snazzy trailer, it was announced that the new phone launches less than a year after the OnePlus 8. The OnePlus 8 and its Pro sibling were released on April 21st last year.

Last year's model saw different release dates depending on region. There's currently no news on whether the new device will follow the same tactic.

Who are Hasselblad?

OnePlus' partnership with Hasselblad for their new devices is very intriguing. Smartphone cameras have become a constant selling point for new devices, and OnePlus is obviously following that trend.

Renowned for their creation of cameras used by astronauts, Hasselblad is the leading company for space photography. In fact, the camera manufacturer is behind the camera that took one of history's most iconic photos: the Apollo 11 moon landing.

With competitors like Samsung and Huawei incorporating huge zoom capabilities in their phones, this could be OnePlus' way of leveling the competition. Could this be OnePlus' Space Zoom alternative?

OnePlus has remained secretive about the technical makeup of their new cameras. However, the device does clearly feature a four camera setup in the trailer. While not confirmed, GSM Arena reports that the device uses Sony's new IMX789 sensor.
